General
What is Minimatch?
Minimatch is a paint manager for miniature painters. Track your collection, scan paint pots with your camera, find cross-brand color matches, create palettes, and save custom mix recipes.
How much does it cost?
Minimatch is free to use with up to 50 paints in your collection. To unlock unlimited paints, it's a one-time purchase of $4.99. No subscriptions, no ads, ever.
Which paint brands are supported?
Minimatch includes 1,539 paints across 14 brands: Citadel (Games Workshop), Vallejo Model Color, Vallejo Game Color, The Army Painter, Scale75, AK Interactive, Turbo Dork, Pro Acryl, Kimera Kolors, Green Stuff World, Warcolours, Coat d'Arms, Two Thin Coats, and Reaper. More brands are added regularly.
Will you add more brands?
Yes. We're actively expanding the paint database. If there's a brand you'd like to see, email us and we'll prioritize it.
Features
How does the camera scanner work?
Point your camera at any paint pot label. Minimatch uses OCR (text recognition) and color matching to identify the paint automatically. It works best with clear labels in good lighting.
How does color matching work?
Minimatch uses CIEDE2000, a color science algorithm designed to match how the human eye perceives color differences. When you select a paint, it finds the closest equivalent across all other supported brands, ranked by perceptual accuracy.
Can I create custom palettes?
Yes. Create palettes for any project, add a reference photo, and pick paints from your collection or the full database. You can also let Minimatch suggest colors extracted from your photo.
Can I save mix recipes?
Yes. Record custom mixes with drop ratios (e.g., 2 drops Mephiston Red + 1 drop Abaddon Black). Name them, save them, and reuse them across projects.
Data & Privacy
Where is my data stored?
All your data stays on your device. Minimatch does not require an account, does not upload your collection to any server, and does not track your usage. Your paints are yours.
Can I back up my collection?
Your data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework and is included in your iCloud and iTunes backups automatically.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
Troubleshooting
The scanner isn't recognizing my paint
Make sure the label is clean and well-lit. Hold your phone steady about 6 inches from the pot. If the label is worn or obscured, try searching for the paint by name instead.
A paint color looks wrong
Screen displays vary, and paint colors on screen are approximations of the actual pigment. The hex values in our database are sourced from manufacturer references where available. If you spot a significant error, please email us with the paint name and we'll fix it.
I purchased the unlock but it's not working
Try restoring your purchase: go to Settings in the app and tap "Restore Purchases." If that doesn't work, make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used to purchase. Still having trouble? Email us with your Apple ID and we'll help sort it out.
